Movie: The Last Castle (2001)

The film follows Lieutenant General Eugene Irwin (Robert Redford), a respected and decorated war hero, who is court-martialed and sent to a maximum-security military prison for disobeying orders that resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers. The prison is run by the tyrannical Colonel Winter (James Gandolfini), who rules with an iron fist and frequently abuses his power.

Upon arrival, Irwin quickly observes the harsh conditions and the cruel treatment the inmates endure under Winter’s command. Despite being initially indifferent, Irwin soon becomes the inmates’ symbol of hope and resilience. He subtly begins to inspire and organize them, planning a non-violent rebellion to expose Winter’s misconduct and restore dignity to the prisoners.

Tension builds as Winter becomes increasingly aware of Irwin’s influence and the growing unrest among the inmates. The situation escalates into a full-scale uprising, during which the prisoners, led by Irwin, take over the prison’s courtyard. The climax of the film sees a final confrontation between Irwin and Winter, resulting in Irwin’s tragic death. However, Irwin’s sacrifice leads to Winter’s downfall as military authorities intervene and relieve him of his command.
